HYPE9 Community Harvest Project

On Friday, June 25th, members of HYPE9 volunteered their time and hands from 9:00-12:00 noon to plant for the Community Harvest Project at the Brigham Hill Community Farm in North Grafton. HYPE will be back there again to lend a hand Friday, August 27th.

The Community Harvest Project is a nonprofit, volunteer farming organization. They are one of the few sources of fresh vegetables for the Worcester County Food Bank (WCFB). 100% of the vegetables that they grow are donated to hunger relief in central Massachusetts through the WCFB.

We are looking for volunteers that would be willing to donate their time from 9:00-12:00 noon (rain or shine!) to help plant these vegetables. At noon, lunch will be provided to all the volunteers in their Community Barn from 12:00-1:00 pm. Special thanks to Struck Catering for donating the lunch for our volunteers.

How To Dress:
The farm is not formal. Prepare to get dirty. Jeans and a T-shirt are a popular combination, and shoes or sneakers that you won't mind getting dirty - no sandals. We highly recommend bringing a hat to keep off the sun! And, bringing along a pair of gardening gloves will keep the dirt-under-the-fingernails to a minimum.

What To Bring: Although we do try to have water available, and the Brigham Hill Community Barn has a water bubbler and restrooms, it's not a bad idea to bring along a bottle of water. Farming is hard work, and the summer sun can be quite hot.

Speaking of the sun, it's also a very good idea to bring along sunscreen to cover any exposed skin areas. Reminder: HYPE is open to young professionals age 21 to 40.
