Leading a successful business takes perseverance and tenacity. With her enthusiastic and buoyant spirit, this presenter will share her experience on:
  • How to be a Leader in Your Community
  • How to Manage Your Time
  • How to Stay Motivated

Renee King Diaz is the founder, president and primary guacamole eater at the $1-million Worcester bakery The Queen's Cups.  She started the business out of her parents' Millbury kitchen a few months after graduating from Worcester State University with a psychology degree in 2012.  At the urging of her parents - who were in no way motivated to reclaim their kitchen - she opened her first store in a tiny Millbury space in 2012, putting down $100 of her parents' money as a deposit. Within a couple years, The Queen's Cups outgrew the space, so Renee restored an historic building in Worcester's Canal District in 2017. By the end of the bakery's first year in Worcester, the number of employees had grown from nine to 25 and revenue had tripled, with 10% annual growth projected for the next five years.

As The Queen's Cups grew, Renee evolved as an entrepreneur and executive. She started off working 14-hour days in the kitchen to make her startup success, and now she presides over the business as a compassionate leader, dedicated to the professional and personal development of her staff, which has reduced employee turnover and increased revenues. Renee maintains her strong ties to Millbury, particularly as the coach of the Millbury High School girls' basketball team. Using the skills learned riding the bench as a point guard for Millbury's 2007 District Championship team, Renee went right into coaching after graduation, became the youngest paid coach in Massachusetts and has led the team on the court for 11 years and counting.
