Guest Speaker: Col. Marian McGovern former MA State Police Chief on September 9, 2014

Colonel Marian McGovern's career spans 33 years in law enforcement. McGovern's career began in 1979 when she graduated from the State Police Academy. She spent years assigned to a barracks performing road patrols, and was later named a detective with the agency. As a "road trooper" who started in the busy Northampton barracks, she learned a lot. She had a stint at the Holden barracks and spent some time as a drill instructor at the academy. The biggest part of her career was as a detective in the Worcester District Attorney's office where she spent 20 years working on solving the most violent crimes. It was there that she made sergeant, then lieutenant.

Over the years, she's seen some tough high profile crimes, like the Bishe family of Warren, suffering through the disappearance and loss of a child; fellow troopers killed in the line of duty and in her last days at work, a trooper's worst nightmare, and a rookie officer-involved shooting in Worcester.

She was promoted to second in command in January, 2010, and was appointed to the top job by Gov. Patrick that December and retired in July of 2012.
