How to Improve Your People, Processes, and Performance Through

Workforce Training

Guest Speaker: Jim Desrosiers, GROWTHco

What are companies doing today to maximize the productivity and results of employees?  They aren't simply 'busy', they are 'productive', and are completely committed to a Culture of Excellence.  Unlock the potential of your employees by developing their personal and professional skills.  Empower them to uncover the opportunities that exist to increase sales, increase services, increase revenue, and decrease expenses. And improve internal processes and procedures to maximize the return-on-investment of your existing assets.  And did you know the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will even help pay a large part of the cost to make these improvements?

The Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund has grant money available to help businesses to train and enhance their employees' skills and introduce new tools and techniques to improve quality, productivity, cost, and customer satisfaction to impact your bottom line.

During the session, you will learn:

  • What are companies doing to improve employee and company performance?
  • What companies qualify for grants?
  • How much money you could receive from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for training and development.
  • The different programs available that pay 50% or more of the training costs (many qualify for 100%).
  • What soft skills and leadership/supervisory training courses are available?
  • What technical, project management, quality control, and process improvement programs are available?
  •  Success stories from a wide variety of sectors, including manufacturing, software, engineering, and service industries.

Sample of curriculum: Experience best practices from these courses:

Develop Your Leadership Potential

Guest SpeakerKate Bett, BettSolutions, LLC

Leveraging over 30 years of research and best practices, this hands on workshop will provide you with a unique look at your own leadership skills/competencies. Using the LEADERSHIP ARCHITECT, a comprehensive and research based library of leadership behaviors (competencies/skills), gain insight into your strengths and development opportunities around key leadership behaviors; specifically you will:

  • Understand why leadership behaviors are critical to success at all levels in an organization and how they can differentiate you as a superior performer

  • Undertake a self-assessment of your leadership behaviors

  • Understand what causes people to derail or fail in their job

Using the results from your self-assessment, you will create an action/development plan that looks beyond just training. You can't work on a development need if you don't know what you need to focus on and how to get there. Development lies in the land of the uncomfortable. It requires getting out of one's comfort zone and trying new behaviors or modifying existing ones. To start you on your development path you will:

  • Learn the concepts and approaches to the 70-20-10 development model, a proven research based approach to development from the Center for Creative Leadership

  • Draft your own action/development plan

Walk away with a better understanding of what you need to do to more effectively lead and develop your own leadership capabilities.

The Workplace Minefield of Legal Misinformation

Guest Speaker: Michael Zeytoonian, Director of

Dispute Resolution Counsel, LLC

"I heard non-competes are not enforceable."

"This boilerplate employment contract agreement will work fine."

"So she was misclassified; she would have made less as an employee."

"That new law doesn't apply to us and doesn't take effect until next year."

We have probably all heard one of these statements, or others like them, about the workplace, the laws that do or don't apply to employment issues and how the law is interpreted or applied.   We may have had a conversation with a trusted friend of ours who knows or is a lawyer in a practice area other than business and employment law. Sometimes, having a little knowledge can be dangerous, especially when it comes to the workplace and the laws that are pertinent to employment issues.

This workshop will focus on some common areas of misinformation about non-compete agreements, about wage and hour laws, about changes in the law, which are applicable and which are not and why, about the dangers of using boilerplate contracts obtained online or from another business and the critical importance of tailoring contracts to each unique situation. It will also offer some useful tips about the proactive importance of good contract drafting, about preventing disputes from happening, and the importance of using the right process for resolving a dispute when it does arise, to assure the best possible resolution.
